Art Level 5 5M1985What is an Art Portfolio Course?
This is a general art course for students who wish to develop their skills in the modules listed below. Many students who attend this course, develop their portfolio to gain entry to NCAD, IADT, DIT and other third level colleges in Ireland, the U.K. or abroad. Students will be assisted with the NCAD brief, or if they have a particular focus eg Fashion Design, Animation, Painting etc, they will receive project work which directly develops their portfolio in these areas. Most years, all of our students have been successful in being offered places in the above colleges. Some students will use this year of study to develop their own skills in drawing, painting, design etc. Not all students apply for third level. Having a Level 5 Certificate, gives the student a further qualification above Leaving Certificate, which employers respect.
Depending on the combination of modules a student can achieve a qualification in Art or Art, Craft and Design. There is now a FETAC Level 6 Certificate available in this area.
Course Content: The following modules will be offered next year subject to availability and demand:
- Design Skills
- Combined Materials
- Fashion Design
- Portfolio Evaluation
- Work Experience
- Word Processing
- Option of Second year level 6
Certification: FETAC Level 5 in Art 5M1985.
Graduates may pursue a degree in NCAD, IADT - Dun Laoghaire, DIT, Institutes of Technology and Art colleges or in many of the IT colleges around the country. Alternatively, a graduate may seek immediate employment in a range of art, design, animation, craft or community arts type projects. Many students progress to FETAC Level 6, or Higher National Diploma and Degree programmes in Graphic Design, Interior Design, Fashion Design etc. There is a Level 6 course 6M4029 available in Dunboyne College. Completion of Level 5 does not ensure automatic progress to Level 6.
