Learners in DCFE are expected to get a work placement in an area that relates to their course.
The college does NOT arrange placements for learners - it is part of your course and learning that you arrange your own work placement.
This is a core module, which means that a learner will not be awarded their full FETAC certificate unless they pass the Work Experience module. Doing a work placement is a core part of this module.
Each student needs to do at least 60 hours in their work placement in order to fulfill this part of the course.
Level 6 Learners need to undertake 120 hours work placement in a supervisory role in a placement that is related to their course.
Learners who are studying any of the healthcare courses (Nursing, Childcare, Applied Social Studies) need to be cleared for Garda Vetting before they will be taken on by most work places, as do learners who wish to work with minors in any capacity. This can apply to learners on a Sports course or a Pre-Arts course.
