Niamh Hoey, sister of our very own Fiona Hoey, gave a talk to the science students on her life experience in the field of food science.
When Niamh completed her leaving certificate she was very unsure as to what she wanted to do, so she decided to take a year out and worked in a food factory. It was during this time, and experience, that she realised she wanted to pursue her study in Food Science. Four years later she completed a degree in Food Science in DKIT. During her degree, she performed a six months work experience in a food laboratory and, after she obtained her degree, she returned to work for a further two years in this laboratory.
She then moved to Abbotts in Longford where she took up a role as a Microbiologist for five years in the Diagnostics Division. Niamh then moved into the Nutrition division of Abbotts in Cootehill as a CAPA coordinator, working in this role for two years. After this she was promoted to Compliance Manager and remained within this role for a further two years. Her interest grew within the Compliance/Quality area of the company and was then promoted to a CAPA and Validation Manager, which is her current role.
She owes a lot of her success to date to pursuing an education in Science/Food Science.
