WHAT IS COMPUTER SYSTEMS AND NETWORKS?

This one-year course is for students who are interested
in pursuing a career in the computer industry. It aims
to prepare students for careers that require specialist knowledge in programming, network implementation and web technology.

This course also provides an excellent foundation for those wishing to pursue degree programmes in universities or those wishing to progress onto Level 6 programmes or apprenticeships.

WHAT IS CREATIVE DIGITAL MEDIA?

This one-year course aims to offer students an introduction to the world of creative digital media, which is one of the fastest growing areas in the software industry as well as information technology which has been a growth area in Ireland for quite some time.

From computer games to computer generated movies and from educational multimedia to internet banking, creative media graduates are always in demand.

This course will provide an introduction to careers in the computing industry but will also provide an important stepping-stone to third level courses leading to exciting careers in the multimedia area.

During the course students may opt to seek work experience with organisations using multimedia and computers in everything from web application to games development.

There are now a large number of places in computer courses in universities and many technological universities for graduates who hold a QQI qualification in Creative Media
or Information Technology. Students can also progress to Media Studies in Maynooth University or First Arts where there are over 175 places available for QQI entrants. There are also places in UCC, TUD, South East Technological University Waterford, Carlow and at Atlantic Technological University, Letterkenny.

There are many opportunities for employment in areas like web design, multimedia production, computer game production, advertising and so on. There are also many further study opportunities in QQI Level 6 courses and in programmes that lead to advanced entry to Universities in the UK.

WHAT IS AUGMENTED AND VIRTUAL REALITY?

This one-year course will aim to offer students an introduction to the world of Augmented and Virtual Reality, providing students with the knowledge and skills to develop, design and evaluate immersive experiences with virtual, augmented and mixed reality technologies.

Augmented and Virtual Reality is one of the fastest growing areas in the software industry, as well as, information technology which has been a growth area in Ireland for quite some time.

Over the last few years, VR has become more widely adopted due to increasing consumer and enterprise demand, growing use cases and a booming ecosystem. Virtual reality is most commonly used in entertainment applications such as video games, 3D cinema and areas including surgery, flight simulators and social virtual worlds.

CAREER OPPORTUNITIES

The aim of this programme is to provide graduates with the knowledge, skills and competencies to design, build and evaluate immersive user experiences using virtual, augmented and mixed reality tools and technologies.

Graduates will acquire core competencies in computing, design and animation making them suitable for employment in immersive design and development across a range of industries and/or graduates are eligible to apply for degrees to universities and technological universities for level 7
