WHAT IS EDUCATION AND TRAINING?
This one-year course, similar to our other arts programme, aims to prepare participants for entrance into Arts programmes in Irish universities and colleges but also lay foundations for those who want to pursue a career as either a primary or post-primary teacher. While the course also prepares students for entry to employment in a range of settings, it is mainly aimed at those who want to pursue careers in the education and training arena. By progressing to an arts degree or education and training qualification, and then on to a post graduate qualification, students can access the many opportunities in the world of education and training. This course basically lays the foundation for those who know education is their first choice of career.
- QQI Level 5 in Education and Training 5M3635
There are now over 175 places in First Arts in 30 places in UCD as well as numerous places in Maynooth University, DCU, UCC, and many local IT colleges for students who hold a QQI qualification in Education and Training. There are also opportunities in education, training, European administration, as well as in the business world. Graduates from this course may gain entry to the BSc Education and Training at DCU. While there is no direct link to primary teaching from QQI, students on completion of the Level 5 award, may apply through the CAO for a range of available courses as part of the newly expanded QQI Links scheme. These include Education Studies and Early Childhood Studies at Marino Institute of Education, Post-Primary Teacher Education at DCU and Arts Degrees at DCU, Maynooth and UCD.
There are also a large range of other degree courses available in universities and Institutes of Technology throughout the country. Students can then apply for the Postgraduate Masters in Education (PME) which results in a qualified primary or post primary teacher.
