WHAT IS MUSIC PRODUCTION?
This course is designed to develop students’ skills in music production, sound engineering, and music technology, providing hands-on experience in both live sound and studio recording. It offers practical training in key areas of the music industry, equipping students with the technical expertise needed for careers in music production, audio engineering, and sound design.
Students will gain experience in recording, mixing, and producing music, working with industry-standard software and equipment. Live sound and studio production are integral components of the course, allowing students to develop both technical proficiency and creative problem-solving skills.
Through practical projects, students will learn the discipline required to work in professional music environments. They will apply their knowledge by producing and engineering live sessions and studio recordings, gaining real-world experience that prepares them for further study or entry into the music industry.

CAREER and PROGRESSION OPPORTUNITIES
Students will develop essential skills in sound engineering, music production, and music technology, gaining hands-on experience in both live sound and studio recording. These competencies provide a strong foundation for further study.
Graduates of this course will be well-prepared to progress to the Higher National Diploma in Sound Engineering at Dunboyne College of Further Education. This advanced programme is ideal for those looking to refine their technical expertise, develop a professional portfolio, and gain industry experience. The HND also offers a direct route into the audio industry or advanced entry into university degree programmes in Ireland and abroad.
Students can also progress to degree courses at institutions such as Dublin City University (DCU), Dun Laoghaire IADT, Maynooth University, Marino Institute of Education, TU Dublin (BIMM campus), Dundalk Institute of Technology (DKIT), University of Limerick, Munster Technological University (Tralee), Technological University of the Shannon (Athlone), Waterford Institute of Technology, and other universities and colleges nationwide. There is also an option to progress to First Arts at Maynooth University, where 175 places are available.
This course provides students with the technical knowledge, practical skills, and industry experience needed to succeed in professional music production and sound engineering environments, whether they choose to continue their studies or move directly into the industry.
