WHAT IS Contemporary Music Performance?
This course is aimed at developing a musician’s ability in the areas of performance and musical awareness and to further enhance skills through music technology and computer applications. It provides students with hands-on experience and training in the various aspects of the music industry. Live performances and studio recordings are an integral part of the course, which is designed for musicians, songwriters and producers.
Through continued commitment to rehearsal students develop the discipline that is required to work in the music industry. Students present, produce and perform a number of live performances as part of their course work. These offer an ideal environment in which each student can put the knowledge and skills gained on the course into use.

CAREER OPPORTUNITIES
Students will develop essential skills in music composition and performance. These competencies provide a strong foundation for further study.
Graduates of this course will be well-prepared to progress to the Higher National Diploma in Music (Artist Development for Musicians) at Dunboyne College of Further Education. This advanced programme is an excellent pathway for those looking to refine their artistry, develop their professional portfolio, and gain industry experience. The HND also offers a direct route into the music industry or advanced entry into university degree programmes in Ireland and abroad.
Students can also progress to degree courses at institutions such as Dublin City University (DCU), Dun Laoghaire IADT, Maynooth University, Marino Institute of Education, TU Dublin, Dundalk Institute of Technology (DKIT), University of Limerick, Munster Technological University (Tralee), Technological University of the Shannon (Athlone), Waterford Institute of Technology, and other universities and colleges nationwide. There is also an option to progress to First Arts at Maynooth University, where 175 places are available.
This course provides students with the knowledge, skills, and experience needed to succeed in a professional music setting, whether they choose to continue their studies or step directly into the industry.
