WHAT IS SOFTWARE DEVELOPMENT AND GAMES DESIGN?
The games industry is one of the fastest growing industries globally. This course is aimed at computer games enthusiasts who are interested in pursuing a career in the computer games industry. This one-year course will allow learners to have an extensive knowledge of games software development. Students will develop the skills to be able to design, create and maintain websites, databases and computer networks, as well as the fundamentals of computer programming. The Games Development element is designed to encourage the development of key games development skills especially in the areas of games software programming, design and graphics.

Students who qualify in this area can pursue further study and a career in computing and the games design sector. As a graduate of this course, you will have a skill set that will enable you to gain employment in the ever-growing games industry, working as part of a development team or in any area of the software development industry. This includes software developers, Games designer and developer. Students can engage with FIT which is an IT led initiative that offers students the opportunity to acquire essential skills to gain employment in the thriving IT sector.
QQI graduates are eligible to apply to Institutes of Technology and universities for Higher Education degrees such as linked courses in places like TU Dublin, Maynooth University, Athlone IT, NUIG, Marino Institute of Education, American College, DBS, Dun Laoghaire IADT. For example, students can apply for the over 175 places available in first arts in Maynooth University and take computer options.

- Mature students of all backgrounds
- Other equivalent qualification
