Graduates of our Physiotherapy Studies programme are eligible to apply for all Physiotherapy Degrees throughout the UK. 

 

 

WHAT IS Physiotherapy STUDIES?

Students who undertake this one-year course in Physiotherapy Studies will gain an understanding of the principles and practices of rehabilitation and an insight into how to assess and treat clients whose movement is restricted by illness, injury, disability or age. Students will gain the skills needed by the HSE to work in the healthcare sector, which will help them to understand therapy programmes and support clients in restoring or improving their mobility.

CAREER OPPORTUNITIES

This course enables graduates to progress to a Level 6 award and thereafter apply to progress to the Level 8 degree offered at the Royal College of Surgeons. Alternatively, students can progress to a sports or science related Level 8 degree and then to the Level 9 Physiotherapy at UCD. There are many progression options for students to study physiotherapy in the UK. Graduates may also apply for several other Level 7 and 8 degrees in Universities and ITs or private colleges around the country. The Pre-Physiotherapy course is very valuable for students and permits them to directly access employment.

Examples of Higher Education Progression:

  • Graduates can progress to related undergraduate degrees in Ireland and then apply for a Physiotherapy Masters programme in universities such as UCD and UL.
  • Mature students can progress to related undergraduate degrees in Ireland and then apply for a Physiotherapy undergraduate degree.
  • Graduates are eligible to apply directly for Physiotherapy undergraduate degrees in certain UK universities.
  • South East Technological University Carlow:  CW188 Sports Rehabilitation and Athletic Therapy (Level 8, 4 Years)
  • Technological University of the Shannon Athlone:  AL841 Athletic and Rehabilitation Therapy (Level 8, 4 Years)
  • Ulster University:  BSc Physiotherapy
  • Colaiste Ide:  6M5147 Pre-University Physiotherapy (Level 6,1 Year)
  • Drogheda Institute of Further Education: 6M5147 Pre-University Physiotherapy (Level 6, 1 Year)
  • Maynooth: Business & Sports Science (Level 8, 4 Years)
  • Royal College of Surgeons:  RC004 Physiotherapy (Level 8, 4 Years) (Level 5 and 6 / Mature Entry requirement)

ENTRY REQUIREMENTS

  • Leaving Cert or LCA
  • Mature students of all backgrounds
  • Other equivalent qualification
