    WHAT IS MEDIA PRODUCTION?

    This course offers students the opportunity to develop knowledge and essential skills in the various fields of Media Production.

    The Media and Film Production course is designed to prepare students for further study or a career in the Media Industry.

    It provides an introduction to skills required in Journalism, Film Making, Radio Production, Design, etc. where students will utilise professional equipment and software. It will also provide valuable foundation skills for further study in areas like communications, journalism, and audio-visual studies.

    CAREER OPPORTUNITIES

    Graduates from this programme can apply to progress
    to the Higher National Diploma in Film Production
    at Dunboyne College. There are now many places in computer courses in universities and in many technological
    universities for graduates who hold a QQI qualification in Media Production. Graduates can also progress to Media Studies in Maynooth University or First Arts, where there are over 175 places available.

    There are also places in UCD, TUD, UCC, Marino, Southeast Technological University, Carlow and Atlantic Technological University, Letterkenny.

    There are many opportunities for employment in areas like Radio and Sound Recording, Music Business, Advertising and Public Relations, Publishing, Webcasting, TV, Film Production, Publishing, Multimedia Production, Advertising. There are also many further studies opportunities on QQI Level 6 courses.

    Future Opportunities

    Graduates can progress into our own Level 6 Higher National Diploma in Film Production, which has strong employment outcomes.

    Graduates can also progress to Media Studies in Maynooth University or First Arts, where there are over 175 places available.

    Higher National Diploma in Film Production

    BTEC Higher National Diploma in Creative Media Production (Film)

    COURSE CONTENT

    YEAR 1 MODULES

    The first year of the course focuses on developing the practical skills, knowledge and understanding required to succeed in various film production and creative media industry roles. The curriculum covers various aspects

    of the film production industry, such as, script writing, cinematography, sound production and editing. Students learn about the creative process, production techniques, industry trends and business aspects of media production.

    YEAR 2 MODULES

    The second year is an advanced vocational set of modules which build upon the foundations provided in year one. The second year will take a deep dive into advanced film production techniques, offering students the opportunity to build a substantial portfolio of work which they can use in the search for jobs in the Irish and international film industries.

    There is a greater emphasis on industry practices and more opportunities for specialisation.

        CAREER OPPORTUNITIES

        Such is the practical nature of our course, it can lead directly to a range of job opportunities in the film and entertainment industry. Possible career paths include film director, cinematographer, film editor, sound designer, screenwriter, producer and production designer. Other potential jobs include casting director, location manager, visual effects supervisor, and more.

        WHAT IS JOURNALISM, DIGITAL MEDIA AND PUBLIC RELATIONS?

        This one-year course in journalism, Digital Media and Public Relations teaches students the skills to be a modern journalist or public relations professional.

        Students will learn how to work across various types of media, while still incorporating the main theoretical concepts of journalism.

        Students will appreciate how digital technology and the use of multiple platforms to deliver news stories are being used to engage a wide and varied public audience.

        CAREER OPPORTUNITIES

        The journalism award will allow graduates to access the Level 8 degree in Journalism at DCU, TUD, University of Limerick and NUI Galway.

        Students can also access many other degrees at universities and technological universities or private colleges throughout the country such as Media Studies at Maynooth University and Multimedia at DCU. Graduates may also access other degrees at TUD Blanchardstown, Tallaght and City Campus, South East Technological University, Carlow, IADT and many more.
