Career Guidance

Dunboyne College of Further Education offers Career Guidance Support to students in the form of one to one and group/class careers information sessions.

This service also includes:

  • College Open Days in DCFE

  • Advice on University/IT progression routes and links

  • College entry requirements and help with CAO/UCAS (UK entry systems) applications

  • Information on employment, labour market trends and CV preparation

  • SUSI grants

  • Information on past student progression

The student Moodle page has a career section updated with upcoming events and information plus information on the drop in service.

MEABH NIMMO

Career Guidance Counsellor

Meabh’s office is located in the Guidance Department of the Learning Hub (turn right as you enter the main door).

Students can obtain advice and guidance in a range of areas including third level progression, apprenticeships, employment skills and personal counselling.

First Point of Contact 

Sexual violence, sexual harassment, & image-based sexual abuse

Patrice Byrne (Psychology Teacher), serves as a First Point of Contact at the college for addressing disclosures of sexual violence, sexual harassment, and image-based sexual abuse.

Patrice has undergone specialised training with Galway University and the Galway Rape Crisis Centre, equipping her with the necessary skills to handle these sensitive disclosures.

She is present on campus daily and welcomes students at any time to report not only the aforementioned issues, but also any behaviour or language they find inappropriate and detrimental to their feeling of safety within the college.

Patrice is available and committed to ensuring the well-being and security of all students.

Personal Counselling

One-to-one counselling for anxiety, stress & day to day issues that arise during the academic year.

Meabh Nimmo and Derek Ball our college Guidance Counsellors can provide one-to-one personal counselling for anxiety, stress, and day-to-day issues that arise during the academic year.

If you feel that you would benefit from this service, below are some ways in which you can access it:

  • Speak with your Mentor who can refer you to this service

  • Or email one of our counsellors (email addresses above) who will contact you to arrange an initial meeting.
