WHAT IS PHYSICAL EDUCATION AND COACHING?

This one-year course is designed to prepare students for a career in the sports, coaching and fitness sectors, or provide a pathway to further study in Physical Educating teaching.

Students will engage in a range of sports, both practically and academically.

Students will also gain the social, communications and leadership skills to work with students in the teaching area, along with athletes and groups in the growing sports, coaching and fitness areas.

In partnership with Meath GAA and the Football Association of Ireland (FAI), students can complete coaching courses and obtain coaching badges to further enhance their practice and experience.

Practical classes will be timetabled on-site at Sport Ireland National Indoor Arena and the National gymnastics Training Centre at Sports Campus Ireland Campus.

  • GAA, FAI, Basketball Ireland and other coaching badges
  • First Aid
  • Patient Moving and Handling

Students can complete coaching courses and obtain coaching badges to further enhance their practice and experience.

CAREER OPPORTUNITIES

This course enables graduates to pursue a career in P.E teaching.

Alternatively, students may progress to a sport or science related Level 8 degree.

Graduates may also choose to pursue careers in various roles such as strength and conditioning, sports coach, sports offices and many different roles in within the sports, leisure and fitness industry.

WHAT IS SPORTS MANAGEMENT WITH BUSINESS?

This one-year course aims to prepare students for work in the sports, recreation or leisure industries.

Sports management with Business graduates will gain the social, communication and leadership skills to work with individuals and groups in the growing sports management areas.

Many of the skills acquired will be transferable for use in business or community development settings. The Sports Management with Business course will lay a foundation for these skills and provide the work experience to put learning into practice.

This programme is ideal for both school leavers and experienced, mature persons seeking a qualification in this area. It will allow graduates to apply for programmes in Ireland or abroad. By taking science modules, students can claim the science award and apply for
Health Science in DCU.

CAREER OPPORTUNITIES

The new Sports Management and Coaching degree course in TU Dublin Blanchardstown will offer graduates a local alternative to advance their studies to honours degree level.

Graduates can also access honours sports programmes in TU Dublin Grangegorman, Dundalk Institute of Technology, UCC, South East Technological University Carlow and

Waterford, Munster Technological University, Tralee, Atlantic Technological University, Letterkenny or students can apply for scholarship programmes in Ireland or the US.

Students can progress to PE Teaching via an undergraduate degree at Munster Technological University Tralee or Cork and to the Postgraduate Master in PE Teaching at University Limerick Sports graduates can apply to First Arts in Maynooth University where 175 places are reserved for QQI entrants.

The course will give graduates the opportunity to become sports development officers or work in areas like gyms, leisure centres or sports clubs. The general qualification will lead to careers in the rapidly expanding leisure industry.

Graduates of this course also have the option to pursue a QQI level 6 course in Sports or Leisure Management.

WHAT IS PERSONAL TRAINING AND FITNESS INSTRUCTION?

This course provides the student with the theoretical knowledge and practical skills as an introduction into the fitness sector. It will allow students to assist in the delivery of safe and appropriate exercise programmes for the wider population.

Students will gain experience in a broad range of sports and fitness components. The course also includes a number of ITEC components which are worldwide industry
recognised courses.

Practical classes will be timetabled on-site at Sport Ireland National Indoor Arena and the National gymnastics Training Centre at Sports Campus Ireland Campus.

Alternatively, with ITEC certificates, students can enter the workforce immediately and begin working as fitness instructors or personal trainers with sporting teams, athletes or in a variety of settings within the health and fitness industries.

WHAT IS SPORTS REHABILITATION AND PHYSIOTHERAPY ASSISTANT ?

Students who undertake this one-year course in Pre- Physiotherapy studies will gain an understanding of the principles and practices of rehabilitation and an insight into how to assess and treat clients whose movement is restricted by illness, injury, disability or age.

Students will gain the skills needed by the HSE to work in the healthcare sector, which will help them to understand therapy programmes and support clients in restoring or improving their mobility.

Practical classes will be timetabled on-site at Sport Ireland National Indoor Arena and the National gymnastics Training Centre at Sports Campus Ireland Campus.

CAREER OPPORTUNITIES

This course enables graduates to progress to a Level 6 award and, thereafter, apply to progress to the Level 8 degree offered at the Royal College of Surgeons.

Alternatively, students can progress to a sports or science related Level 8 degree and then to the Level 9 Physiotherapy at UCD. There are many progression

options for students to study physiotherapy in the UK.

Graduates may also apply for several other Level 7 and 8 degrees in universities and technological universities or private colleges around the country.

The Pre-Physiotherapy Studies course is highly valuable for students and permits them to directly access employment.

Graduates can progress to related undergraduate degrees in Ireland (e.g. Sports Rehabilitation or Athletic Therapy) and then apply for a Physiotherapy Masters programme in universities such as UCD and UL or in the UK.

Graduates are eligible to apply directly for Physiotherapy undergraduate degrees in certain UK universities.

Mature students can apply for Physiotherapy undergraduate degree programmes in Ireland or the UK.
