Preparing for Employment

All students complete a work experience module as part of their course.

This module will introduce the student to the career and further educational opportunities within their area of study. Students will receive training on

  • how to apply for jobs
  • complete CV and cover letters
  • prepare for interviews
  • employment legislation

Personal and Professional Presentation workshops are offered as part of the induction process and throughout the year.

Students are also encouraged to avail of the services of the Career Guidance Counsellors in the college when making their career decisions.

Work Experience module

Industry work placement is scheduled as one/two days a week or as a block placement. This is in addition to your class timetable. This is a core module, which means that to achieve your full QQI award you must pass the Work Experience module.

Students are expected to get work placement in an area that relates to their course area. We encourage students to start looking for relevant work placements as soon as possible after they are offered a place on a course.

Further details on the specific course requirements and scheduling will be available from your Work Experience Teacher when you start your course.

Garda Vetting

Students who are studying on any courses that involves working with children and vulnerable persons (Healthcare, Childcare, Sports, Pre-Arts etc) need to be cleared for Garda Vetting before they will be taken on by most employers. Further details will be available when you start your course.

College Insurance Letters

Students will need to supply their work experience placement with a copy of the below letters to show that you are covered by college insurance while on work experience.
