Just some advice in advance of ‘Round Zero’ offers which will be issued this Thursday from 10am by the CAO.

‘Round Zero’ offers are for places on courses that hold a quota (set number) of places for QQI/FET students, and these offers must be accepted by Tuesday 11th August (15:00 hrs)

What if I don’t receive an offer?

  1. Check did you receive the required results, check that you have your correct PPS number on your CAO application and check that your results are appearing on your CAO application (all advised  throughout they year). If any information is incorrect, contact CAO immediately: 091-509800
  2. If you didn’t receive an offer in ‘Round Zero’, you still have a chance of receiving offers in Rounds 1, 2,3………

What do I do when I receive an offer?

  1. If you want the course, then go ahead an accept it.
  2. If you are not happy with the offer you received and wanted a course higher up on your CAO listing: You should accept the offer you were given and then wait and see if you get made a higher offer in ‘Round 1 – August 26th’ for a course higher up on your CAO listing, if you do receive an offer in ‘Round 1’ then you accept that offer and it automatically takes you out of the course you accepted in ‘Round Zero’
  3. Remember, if you turn down an offer from ‘Round Zero’ you are automatically precluded from receiving any further offers from CAO.

What do I do if I want to defer a course?

If you wish to defer an offer of a place you do not accept your offer. Instead, you must:

  • email the Admissions Office of the appropriate University/HEI immediately
  • give your name as it appears on your CAO application
  • quote your CAO application number and the course code of the offer you wish to defer
  • set out the reason(s) for the request
  • mark “DEFERRED ENTRY” clearly in the subject line of the email.

The email must arrive in the Admissions Office of the institution at least two days before the reply date shown on the Offer Notice. The HEI will communicate their decision to you directly. If the deferral is not granted, you may then accept the offer for the current year, providing you accept the offer by the reply date. You must send all communications about deferrals to the appropriate Admissions Office and not to CAO.
